At the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), the international hub for global market leaders to showcase their creativity and innovation in electronic products/services, out of which some launch during the show, some concept products that never launch but look out of this world, and some few products displayed are to be launched in near future.
Similarly, Sony did something, when everyone was awaiting the launch and details on PlayStation 5 (PS5), we just got the logo of it, and instead of diving into the details, we got a concept car from Sony, and yes it turned a lot of heads.
The Vision S is built on Sony’s own technologies; its camera sensors (which are already in use by several autonomous vehicles), surround sound audio technology (360 Real Sound with speakers fit into the seat surrounding the neck), entertainment and immersive technologies (display tech used in their phones and computers), various LiDAR, RADAR & Camera data processing capabilities, making this EV an amalgamation of their self-made technologies.
But there was, of course, the need for expertise in many more segments, that led Sony to partner with many leading companies in the EV sector.
Being only a concept for the moment, it does show a promising side to it, with the design and the level at which Sony has exhibited it for the first time. But it still has a long time to go for officially coming in consumers’ hands, so the competition and rivalry is still a longshot story, but whenever Vision S launches, it will surely give a positive competition in the EV market.
New Mobility Proposals Pursuing Comfort and Entertainment
Sony’s efforts in the area of mobility – such as pursuing safety, reliability, comfort, and entertainment – are being positioned as a new initiative, named “VISION-S.”
The first prototype vehicle to result from “VISION-S” will be showcased at the Sony booth. This prototype incorporates Sony’s imaging and sensing technologies, as well as on-board software regulated using Sony’s AI, telecommunication and cloud technologies, in order to continuously update and evolve its features.
A total of 33 sensors including CMOS image sensors and ToF sensors are embedded within the vehicle, in order to detect and recognize people and objects inside and outside the car and provide highly advanced driving support. Sony’s “360 Reality Audio” provides a deep and immersive audio experience through speakers built into each seat to encapsulate passengers in sound.
The front seats face a panoramic screen on which rich and diverse content can be enjoyed through an intuitive user interface. Sony will continue to combine its advanced technologies to deliver greater safety and reliability, while also striving to inspire new emotion through revolutionary in-car entertainment experiences.
